Partition Museum is housed in the red bricks of Town Hall building. This is the first Museum to record the trauma that resulted after the exodus of millions of people across the newly carved borders of India and Pakistan in 1947. Its 14 galleries, starting from the pre-partition period which takes the visitor through various phases of Partition. Of these exhibits, the most dramatic representation is a giant saw cutting through a wall. In the Gallery of Migration, black and white footage of a train carrying refugees plays continuously, while a broken down house symbolises the violence during the rioting.
The display includes photographs, newspaper clippings,donated personal belongings and letters of those troubled times. The journey ends with the Gallery of Hope where visitors can leave message on paper shaped like green leaves strung from a barbed wire tree.
