Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs

Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) is a part of the Department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. It deals with the tasks of formulation of policy concerning levy and collection of Customs & Central Excise duties and Service Tax, prevention of smuggling and administration of matters relating to Customs, Central Excise, GST and Narcotics.

The Board is the administrative authority for its subordinate organizations, including Custom Houses, Central Excise and GST Commissionerates and the Central Revenues Control Laboratory.

Equipment can be temporarily imported to India in 2 ways –

  • Apply for Custom Exemption Letter to the Ministry of I&B at the time of applying for shooting permission.
  • Through ATA Carnet an International Uniform Customs document issued in 79 countries.
